Hello everyone,
I am new to Datsuns and trying to gleam some information before I look at and potentially buy one. I was shown some pictures of what is said to be a 1967 or '66 520.  All I was told was that it runs but needs restoration. No more details other than the asking price, which in my opinion, is way to high. $4,850. The truck has charm and a little visible rusting. (see attached photo) Not bad for a NW vehicle.

My major questions are, what is the average going rate for one? I see on the for sale listings on this forum a range of prices due to mods, etc. And what should I be looking/listening for when doing a test drive. Any known problems?

I currently own a few classic twin motorcycles and service those headaches so I know what comes with classic engines. Don't mind a little wrenching.  I am just hoping to better educate myself before making any decisions and possibly talk this person down a grand or two.

Any advice and/or guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks

That is quite a bit for a 1967 Datsun 520(it's not a 66), it would have to be in very good shape to rate that much in my opinion.
That truck has been on craigslist for a while now, 520s just don't sell fast unless they are cheap, and they sometimes don't even sell fast when cheap either, there have been about 4/5 of them on the Portland list recently.
I live across the river from you in Vancouver.
I know the voices are not real, but they have some really good ideas.

Thanks for the input. I figured as much. I was going to offer the dude half his asking and let him marinate on it. From the little I know, I hear that parts are not cheap making a restoration project pricey. I'm not really looking to brake the bank of a truck. I have Honda moto for that. Tongue

If I do check it out I'll post here with more detail on the truck for those interested.

Yeah, that's alittle pricey, but I always say if you want it then what you pay is up to you in the end no matter what others think. Sorry I don't know much on 520's. I'm a sucker for slot mags, so I'd buy it for those alone, lol. It looks like a sharp looking truck.
