The transmission will work you will just have to use your 720 bell housing. It worked good on my 85 napz 720 the gearing is really close just try not to go lower then a 4:38 rear end.   fyi my truck is all full set dual 44mm sidedrafts headers, isky top end cam shaft and etc so it worked well for 1/4 mile drags.hope that works for you not recommended for daily driver.

So a 720 can take a 5 speed out of a 1969 1600  Roadster?  What needs to be done?

720 and 620 transmissions are '2 piece case' later model transmissions.   Early model 240z 4 speed and roadster transmissions are '3 piece' early model transmissions. Later model trans cannot interchange with early models.
A bell housing from an early Z trans will bolt up to a roadster 5speed, not a bell from a 720.
Sorry for the confusion from the earlier post.

Pictured below:
Top transmission is a 2 piece, later model.
Lower transmission is a 3 piece, early model 240z 4speed. Bell will bolt up to a roadster 5speed.
