I liked this "towbar" idea and decided to attempt to build my own so I could move my non op Datsuns from one location to another.

I built mine a little differently than Slam but I didn't start from scratch.

Problem #1 I had was that I am not a welder and do not know how to weld

Problem #2 I am not a carpenter or fabricator I am a mechanic.

I bought a welder about a year ago thinking I would learn how to use it but it sat in a corner until recently.
I was a a local welding shop and looked into their "dumpster" and found my inspiration for learning how to weld.

I started with a towbar someone had made, I could not use it as it was due to having a pintle style hitch hook up.
Fisrt thing to do was to cut the loop off, once I got the loop off I measured and found out I was working with 1 1/2" square tubing with 1/4 wall. So back to the welding shop I went looking for a short piece of 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 square tubing with a 1/4 wall, didn't take long and I was walking away with a piece 18" in length.
Next was a stop at tractor supply company to pick up a coupler, I settled for a 1 7/8 ball 2 1/2 channel coupler rated for 2000lbs.

I cut and trimmed and mocked up till I was happy then dug out the welder.

I made the "triangle" part angle down slightly from the ball for a few reasons and worked out well. I don't trust my welding but so far all is well. I pulled my white Datsun 38 miles with the old goat with no issues at all.

Still on the never ending quest to squeeze more from an L series

Well it is hooked to my S-10 and it sits kinda low. I am going to redo the hook up point next week, just trying to get it to the show tonight.
