Hi Guys & Gals
Here is a link to more pics  http://community.ratsun.net/topic/23562-supercharged-vg30-stretched-720-pickup/ - http://community.ratsun.net/topic/23562-supercharged-vg30-stretched-720-pickup/    my project 720
It started out as a regular cab long box Z24 5 speed , it was way too slow so I installed a 1986 300ZX engine and trans , drove it for several years, and then on day I was stopped behind a Nissan Xterra that had a Supercharged sticker on it !!!!!!!!!!!! how cool is that !!! so I found an Xterra supercharger on E-bay and  I installed the Supercharger, Super fast !!!
I built an adapter and the pullies are off wrecks, the one on the crank is a certain size to obtain the right amount of boost, its off a German car ..........................sorry guys .......................I try to keep it all Nissan.
The fuel and air is managed by HKS Pfc F-con and a Turbo ECU.
Next the Cab was too small so I cut the back off and added 16 inches.
The rear is handled by a narrowed Z32 Diff, custom built control arms, front brakes are Z31 hubs machined to fit 720 wheel bearings and Z32 rotors.

Wow! You are quite the craftsman. Is it now 5-lug wheels? I can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi Mocman
Yes it is now 5 lug  ( 5x114.3) same as 300ZX its the most common 5 bolt pattern, the rear is Z32 hubs and disc brake, and the front is a combination of Z31 hubs machined to fit the larger 720 bearings and Z32 rotors and Calipers.
It's a big project and it will be back on the road this spring, can't wait I miss driving it big time.
Thanks for your interest

Hi Guys and Gals
I have been busy ............but not on my truck , yes a Mini but not a truck .
I am building a custom Carbonfiber dash for someone else, it's for a classic Austin Mini, building a Plug and then a mold from the Plug and then the actual parts........................whew its a mailto:s#@t - s#^@t load of work, but its going to be very very cool !!!!!!
Here are some picks so far, should be making some parts this week coming and then back to my 720 rocket.

Mock up

The Plug

The Plugs sprayed with PVA ( A mold release ) before Gelcoating and then fiberglassing

The Mold from the Plug, this now gets waxed 6 times, sprayed with PVA and the layed up with fiberglass or carbonfiber and Vacuum bagged.

Hi
I am not sure what you are asking , if you want to know if the VG30 is way faster, and pulls like a 5 litre Mustang compared to the stock Z24 .
Then the answer is Hell ya !!!! and then add the Supercharger and an other Hell Ya to that !!!

Hi
one of the guys asked me how I did my door handles and how did I get Pathfinder mirrors to fit a 720.
I cut the handle including the lock from the passenger door and put it in the drivers door and the drivers side handle and lock to the passenger side, fabbed up a little box to hold the stricker assy, I moved the handles because I like them, I don't want to have to use a key fob every time I want to get something from the truck.
The Mirrors I cut the posts shorter and drilled and tapped them .

Well I hope this helps with the questions , I was looking forward to Canby this year , but no way I can make it, I have set a goal to have my truck back on the road this fall painted  !!!!!

NICE!  I will be building a ne cross-member for mine, but I wont be using the carrier bearing.   Are those notches for true duals?   Thats awesome!    You have to notch something under these trucks because there is no room for exhaust!

Ya the half round notches are for exhaust, my last exhuast was almost totally squished, still have to captive nuts for the cab mounts.
I might switch to a one piece driveshaft later, it needs to be over 6 feet long.

Hi
I had some time to work on Blue Thunder ( my truck was named Blue Thunder because it was blue and sounded like thunder) this weekend for a bit, I was having a hard time with suspension, finding shocks that would work with my modified Z32 diff, so I built cantilevered setup, with some used JIC Shock's
I ran out of time ,but got enough done to test it !!!!!!
Now I can adjust ride hieght and spring preload and rebound all separate !!!!!!!
Lots of pic's ........................I know i like to see project stuff too

Well I had a week set aside to work on my truck and my wife's Miata sprung a serious oil leak, which turned into pulling the engine to remove the pan , while I am in there did the clutch and lightened the flywheel 3 Lb's , also picked up a nice 4 into 2 into 1 stainless header.
So now I have to squeeze some time for Blue Thunder.

That's really nice! It sucks when a DD goes down, but you did it right!!! Cleaned it up, preventative maintenance, upgrades.. PERFECT!

Out of curiosity, post up a video of the mx5 running, I'd like to see how loud the exhaust is.

What's in the works for the truck?

Thanks EZ as for Blue Thunder I must get it back on the road ,or at least to the point I can drive it out side, its killing my space.
The list is huge, fuel tank, brake lines, wire the back of the truck, make a drive shaft ,finish welding out the new chassis, finish the steering rod ends & linkage to the column, re-gasket the engine and new clutch, exhaust , rear diffuser ,tires for the 20 inchers.
String it and do an alignment.
I am thinking of painting inside the cab and jams , back of the cab , around the windshield, top of doors so I can put windows in.
Drive it iron out any bugs then quick disassemble for full paint
That's all ........................

I bought a Miller Spectrum 375 X-Treme Plasma cutter, tested it today cut a piece of Angle iron 6x6x1/2 inch thick .just like butter. very excited to get back to work on Blue Thunder, the Plasma should help speed up the Fabrication, not to mention spicing up the creativity !!!!

OK, I followed a link here to check out your five lug swap and I have to say, I dig your truck. I am leaning toward doing this engine in a 620 myself. I really hope to see you at Canby this year. I would like to see this in person.

Hi made a tool on the lathe, a dimple die , first test was sweet, I have a few things to make and with dimples would be way hotter. going to start working on Blue Thunder again this weekend, hoping to have it road worthy for Canby , no paint or interior ,I will be pushing it to make the dead line ,fist thing on the list is to get the chassis finished , suspension, steering, brakes , so stay posted for updates !!!!!

The hole is 1 1/4 inch , I might make a couple of different sizes.
This was a quick test , on a real part I would clean up the hole edge before pressing the dimple.

So what are you going to dimple?

I have a question about your 300ZX hubs, did they change the width of the front end at all? I am collecting parts to go five lug myself. I would like to shorten the rearend to the offset I want. I would love to make a weekend swap and have both ends done at the same time. Not sure if that will be possible yet or not.

Thanks
Jes

Hey Jester , the best way to do the front is to swap to Toyota 2wd 5 bolt pickup hubs , I machined 300ZX ( Z31 hubs ) way too much fooling around , but I couldn't find any Yoda ones at the time, and maybe your best to swap to a Yoda rear diff also ? as for dimpling parts , Rad/fan shroud , frame gussets , parts of the rear diffuser , fuel tank brackets etc.

Examples of Dimples :

back to working on Blue thunder , I made a discovery last weekend that sucked , my shocks don't like to be upside down ,the gas gets trapped and the lockup , so I had to find a way to flip them over or buy another pair , I went with flipping them , sure glad I test thing before welding everything completely.
Also got feed up with trying to hold the hub in the right place while trying to work, so I made a tool that go's in my floor jack to hold the hub , this makes life a lot easier , I can cycle the suspension and check my bump steer also.

rear suspension and frame fish plates , need to order some tires for these 20 inch wheels , so I can build some suspension arm stops. I will weld the rest out when the box comes off.

Hi I was looking for some tires for my 20 inch wheels and saw these and had to have them ,I think the look way better and are much lighter, the fronts are 19 X 8 and give me more room in the fenders for turning , and the rears are 19 X 9.5 ,so now I will order some tires for these wheels, fronts I was thinking 245/35/19 and rear 275/35/19, once they are mounted I will be able to finish the rear set-up with bump stops etc.I have been working on the steering , modifying the frame rail for my weird steering shaft return gear box .also started thinking about fuel tank & spare space saver tire.

Did the 300zx hubs widen your front track at all?

Hi Sorry no updates at this time been very busy working & doing maintenance on my house , also some bad news , the engine in my white D21 Hardbody let go a few weeks ago , it only had 474.000 thousand Kilometers on it, so I have been looking for an engine if anyone can help locate one please let me know.
I was so stoked when I got my new wheels & tires , it was a huge boost of motivation , and then other crap got in the way.
So over the next few months you will see Blue Thunder come to life !!!!!
Stay tuned

Hi update worked on the steering & frame this weekend , I will weld the inside parts and the bottom when the engine is out. funky thing to make. it's nice to be working on this project again !!!!! , next is the pump bracket, lines and rod ends.

The heavy piece on the right hand side on the bottom is to be drilled and tapped for the sway-bar mount later

Update , modify motor mount to make room for the Alternator and mount the power steering reservoir . originally I was going to update the steering to power using a factory 720 power box, had it all installed and lowered in the chassis to make room for the oil pan , so I was going to mover the alternator drivers side and have the PS pump on the passenger side.
after swapping up to the Pathfinder rack that all changed.

Hi worked on the Supercharger pulley setup , the first time I did it was quick and dirty, the truck was a daily driver , so installing the blower on a long weekend was already a big job , I still have to machine up some spacers to line up the belt, plus paint it ,I know this is kind of boring , but it's going to be more fun soon .............

Excellent craftsmanship!  Bet you may have seen some distortion if you mad a continuous weld.

Hi EzCruiser , welding things can be tricky, I see other people weld stuff on some builds and think Wow that guy is crazy !!! welding steering parts and the weld is way too cold no penetration , or over welding some parts , which can cause tons of distortion , some times its a matter of properly tacking the part before welding or welding the part in a special sequence to prevent these problems , in this case I could have welded it all the way around but it's plenty strong this way. Also saves welding consumables . thanks for looking and the great comments .

Hi Worked on the supercharger belt system again today, made up a couple of spacers and lengthened a bolt , drilled some lighting holes , quick blast of paint. if there are too many pics just let me know , all this little stuff eats up so much time. anyway here ya go.

Hi got some stuff done in the last couple of days , some truck and some shop . made a list !!! OMG , worked on the front sway bar .

put new links in to see where I was with clearing the oil pan and steering shaft to the rack

nothing too exciting , sure is nice to be rid of all that extra steering crap !!!! , also if anyone wants the old stuff they can have it foe free , I have 2 720 steering box's one power ( with pump and factory lines ) and one manual

Also got really annoyed with too much stuff in my way and decided to do something about it , had buckets of short crops and always moving them and digging through them to find some piece.
the problem

the solution

When you have a small shop its hard enough to fit everything in ,it can get out of control fast .
Should be some big changes coming , going to order some parts this week, I will be concentrating on the big items in the next few weeks , so stay tuned in.
