That is funny you mention that, my 74 came from the  factory yellow but was painted turd brown Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page. I had to shoot some primer on it. But hell yeah yellow would look nice on there

Well, it's all about progression!  If you can get that list down to "and I can't do that till I sharpen my pencil" you will be making faster progress than I!!! HAHA LOL!

I guess you could get refrigerator rubber bands and start winding them around the rims!  Then use shoe polish to give them that "new tire" shine!LOL Lol, sorry I'm on my high horse tonight...Embarrassed

I really like those rims though!  What is the chance I could get you to put fat whitewalls and hubcaps on that bad boy?

hey bro, i've used both dupont and nason, got good results with both, but by far dupont centari rocks!!!! and for your truck do all the body and paint first, as i have done alot of resto's and customs over the years, it is way easier to clean over spray off a blank interior(ha-ha), then to try to clean carpet and upholstery, when doing the interior make sure paint is at least 30 days old, then put 2" wide masking tape down on all the jams, then put duct tape over that to prevent scratching the fresh paint, install the carpet, then do all the interior, then install the windows, then install the seat, then the door panels, that way no chance of hurting any of the other parts, it has always worked good for me, and that is the way all big name shops do it,  hope this helps, it makes things go easier, and in the end saves you money and time, cuz overspray on any interior stuff sucks..tom

thanks for the tip man, dont worry im not a half asser, paint and interior is way way way down the line, im yankin the frame and starting from the ground up, this truck is to old and to rare (for around here) to do it all redneck, i am a perfectionist, im the kind of person that goes to the store and reads the label on each product then goes home and reads online about them and the figure out if its best for me then i go buy it, i take my time, use my patience and get it done right the first time

here is a little update, i got my block back from the machine shop yesterday, im actually impressed with their work, cant even see the sleeve, decked the top real nice, and matched the bore perfectly.   anyways i have spent the day prepping and painting the block, took me most of the day to get it done, i dont like rushing paint work, 2 coats of primer and 3 good coats of paint, i used the cast iron color by duplicolor. it came out pretty good,  i finished installing my valve stem seals and my valves also.   bought a 50lb bag of baking soda so i can blast my front cover and some other blasting sensitive parts.  carbs are still at wolf creek and i am expecting them next week or the week after, should get my cam sometime in there as well, i am hoping to have the engine in by august so i can drive it the rest of the summer and through the fall, then back under the tarp for the winter.   hopefully if i get the engine in i can get my titans and new tires and disc brakes on before winter hits.

starting to go a little faster, i lost my job on saturday so i wont be getting cheap parts anymore but hey datsun parts are cheap anyways and i have already bought all of my expensive big ticket items for this project!!! lol actually im glad i got out of there, they were running me into the ground and no raises in sight, i sold  20 to 30k worth of parts every month and my quota was a minimum of 10k, anyways so now im focused on my college, my son, and the datto!!!!!!! enough of this sappy crap heres the scoop!!

head on, rotating assembly in,  various little parts on, soda blasted front cover then wire brushed, soda blasted valve cover and water outlet all ready for polishing,  still waiting on cam so i can button up the rest of the engine.  how about some pics. sorry for the crappy quality i dont know whats up with the camera

and a few more goodies, picked up a rebuilt saturn alt for 60 bucks with lifetime warranty, still have to swap my pulley on it and do a few various bracket modifications for that.

i will be able to answer your question more in a few weeks but im hoping for a stronger powerband in the mid and upper end range, so at about 2500-3000 rpm the power comes on hard and continues on out through the redline, with any cam you have to give up to get a gain, i chose to sacrifice low end for top end since i am swapping to a 5 speed and possibly rear end gears, but mainly i got the cam to take full advantage of my mikuni sidedrafts. more fuel=more power more cam= more fuel packing into cylinder for longer period of time!! all adds up to hopefully a bolt on 20+ hp

rusty,   i found those carbs on craigslist over a year ago, price was 200 and i talked him down to 140, came with manifold, spent 20 on gas and drove 45 min to pick them up.   for the price i couldnt pass but they were missing alot.  they didnt have any venturis, no linkage. no gaskets, no trumpets, hell they were even missing alot of hardware but the carb bodies and jet blocks were complete!!!   after a year of saving i finally got enough money to fix them.  the whole reason for the engine build has been centered around these carbs. i couldnt see putting them in an old engine and since i needed to cam up for the carbs i figured what the heck. anyways i sent the carbs off to wolf creek racing and todd walrich redid them for me, he charged me 800 and atleast 700 of that was parts, i wasnt about to try and do these myself because me buying the parts would have cost almost as much and some of the parts wouldnt have been replated. so after buying the carbs and shipping them and having them rebuilt i was in approx  980$ after buying some linkage bits and various small brass fittings for the manifold im at a total cost of about $1030.00 a big price to pay but i could easily get almost all of  my moneys back if i decided to sell these bad boys and man they look sweet, im sure they will sound sweet too!!!!  i could have went with an sr20 but hey man iyou gotta love the l20b!!!!!! not to mention alll the work involved with an sr20 and i dont really want to cut my truck up. so for this project its dual carbbed L20B

Lookin good, of course, now that you refreshed my old memory, I remember you had wolf creek racing do your carbs, that's a great price for the whole setup.
You guys look way to dirty to have been workin around that nice clean motor, LOL.

its getting there slowly, i might get to fire it up tomorrow or within the next few days, been busy lately, spent most of today detailing my silverado getting it ready to trade off,  but the only thing i got done on the datto was mounting the fan and the radiator, man not much clearance for the electric fan but it will work.  just  mainly a bunch of small stuff left to do. NOW PICS!!!!!

and heres the daily untill i get the datto up and goign again

well i drove her today!!!!!! sorry no vids or pics, i was pressed for time and daylight but i will get them asap.  i had to run the electric fan on the front of the radiator to give me more clearance for the water pump and belt.   the saturn alt rules!!!!!!! electric fan rules!!!!! electric fuel pump rules!!!!! and i am speechless about these carbs and cam!!!!!!!    on a side note this thing is not a gas saver anymore!!!!! holy crap guys no kidding i put in half a tank of premium drove around for probably 30 minutes (less than 25 miles) and more than half of it is gone! but i had some 60-70mph runs down the bypass too!!    well the 5 speed shifts fine, the redline gl-4 gear lube is great so far. i cant wait untill tomorrow i hope it doesnt rain.    pics and vids to come.

braden, happy to hear u got those carbs running. believe me, i know how tempting it is to stomp on the pedal just to hear that awesome sound of induction that sidedrafts are famous for but u need to restrain yourself especially during the break-in period of your 'new' engine. overrevving or driving more than 10 minutes  at varying rpm's above 2500 on the initial ride prematurely wears down rings and bearings or they may not seat/seal well, this usually happens when a motor is broken in aggressively. as for fuel consumption, be sure fuel pressure is no more than 3 psi and check to be sure fuel is not flowing past your rings. after a short drive, turn your engine off and pull your oil dipstick and sniff it. if u smell fuel then u already know what u need to do. other than that, have fun with it but gradually, not aggressively.

Braden a glass pack will make it super loud and it will let your engine breath so you will have that power back!

thanks guys i appreciate all of the comments, now get out there and throw a cam in all of your 620's!!!  its super easy and the isky cams are cheap (fairly lol)  these carb can be had for not too much as well but you have to keep looking for them.  yeah its pretty fun to drive, my wife couldnt keep up today in her 130hp honda accord, it weighs alot though its a 4 door.
