those ac are expensive but i have one in a pop up and it will freeze your balls!  i prefer the cool night breeze, these teardrops are sweet! you can go from cheap to fancy and everything in between.   looks like you could have a nice camper for 1000 bucks or less! especially if you improvised and used alot of used stuff.  a coleman stove for cooking in the rear, and an overhead water tank for dish washing. heck you could buy a junk camper for like 200 bucks and swap alot fo stuff over. you can even get gas powered fridges!

No A/C in this one. Gonna have a small slider window in the door and one on the opposite side for venting. I'm heading down to Asheville N.C. this weekend to meet up with a guy that salvages old campers, so gonna pick up windows for this camper and probably some extras for future projects.

Well Daniel, I talked to the guy at the VW show that builds these and he said he sold one for $3500 like the one he had there, and I think this ones better than the one he had there, so I figure anywhere between $2500 to $3500.

rusty i assume you are going to be using aluminum to skin it? i am curious about insulation? i know the sides are 3/4 ply? probably marine grade ply?  there wouldnt be any wall cavity for insulation, they make a type of aluminum coated bubble wrap thats r4 value, not much but its real thin, we used it in our shop once, it reflects heat pretty good. what about a vapor barrier? http://www.stegoindustries.com/ - http://www.stegoindustries.com/  look at this stuff, its a 15 mil thick true vapor barrier, we used it under our house to prevent any and all moisture from penetrating the concrete, i assume it would work well for your purpose, i might have some left over, i dotn know if there is enough to do a camper though. you have to use thier special tape for a true watertight seam seal. its reall thick super sticky poly vynil tape of some sorts. you cant hardly peel it off.         looking good, about how much longer do you think it will take you to finish it?

Yeah Braden, I'm covering it in aluminum, I've got a metal place in town I'm getting it from. I've insulated the top and front, but for the sides, the plywood is going to be it. As small as it is, a small heater in it would probably run ya out of it on a cold night. For the summer, open the windows on each side and hope for a good wind or you can always put a fan in it. Its for camping so roughin it is part of it. Better than a tent.

heck yeah!!! when people say campin i think of rolling up a sack throwin it on my back and heading off into the hills, not hauling a 10k lb side slide out camper with plasma tv with a f350 super duty dually! lol but yeah we have a pop up and now that i think about it the plywood probably has 5 times the r value of the walls of the pop up, you right about the heater. I noticed you had a 115 volt plug in there, tell us more about the electrical system!  you gonna run a battery rack with 12v camper lights inside and in the back? that would be swell.  we also wanna hear about the bacon fryin, biscuit bakin kitchen out back!  nothin like waking up at dawn and crackin open soem egss to the smell of a campfire!

Heres a little update. Picked up the aluminum today and started putting it on. They're not all the way mounted in the pics, just a couple of screws in them to do some test fitting. The gap on the front corner is just where I don't have it screwed on, it's not up against the wood. Still waiting on some trim to show up in the mail. These pics will give ya an idea of what shes gonna look like.

Thanks again guys and gals, got alot done today. Still got to finish the door and some trim peices along the bottom. On the electrical, I have an external plug in, so if your camping at a camp site or you have a small generater, you can plug in to that and have power to the recepticles and the inside light. If your way out in the woods camping, your gonna be using lanterns and roughing it anyway.

Thanks all, well, I got pretty much everything major done today, outside lighting, carpet inside, adjustable stand up front mounted, the only small things I need to do are mount the fenders, adjust alittle on the door and mount the back hatch hasps/locks. I have to move the opel out of the way in the morning to get her out of the garage and take her for a test tow, make sure it doesn't fall apart, lol. Getting my decal guy to do some decals for it, hopefully I can get those tomorrow. I'll get some good pics up when I get her out.

No Slam, I had to do some real work today and started getting dark so I've been buttoning up a few things. Gonna get the back hatch latches on tonight and shes done other than cleaning and shining her up alittle. Hopefully I can get off work before dark tomorrow and get her out.

This looks professionally built Rusty.  I bet it is much better built & sturdier than one of those production built models.

What alluminum did you use to skin it?

Well, a guy Ez and I met at the VW show had one there and said he had just sold one just like it for $3500 a month before, and this one, I think, is better than his. I figured I'd ask $3000 for it then take alittle less, around $2700. What do ya think?

if the one that sold was $3500.  you should ask 4K and take alittle less.  after all, yours looks great and is better.  just my opinion.

Thanks Alley,
No Braden, I haven't, not unless they are calling and it shows up unknown caller, then I never answer those calls, but no one has left a message.

Rusty I agree with Alleycat you should start at $4,000 and then take a little less.  What does it weigh? What is the tounge weight?
