Loadin her up.

Thanks Slam and Alley, I'm excited about my new Datsun toy to save. I cleaned out the inside and gave her a good look over, shes solid everywhere but a couple small holes on driverside floor and the rockers are shot. Nothing that can't be fixed. Ez came by to check her out and gave the thumbs up on her. I got the good hood off the other 510 wagon and gonna get some other things off it tomorrow, like the windshield and drivers door. The guy pulled it out and had it sitting in the sun and said he heard something pop, and the back glass just busted on its own, bad thing is the back glass on the other wagon is busted also, so I'll have to figure that out later on a replacement. Heres some more pics.

hey Rusty, I just might have a rear hatch glass, I plan on replacing my rear hatch because it has to much damage.
If you can't find one close to ya and ur interested, contact me when I get the hatch changed.
Also if you're looking for other 510  goon stuff, I know of a few goons over here in a JY.

If you put the same amount of work in the goon as you did in the blue 620, that sucka is going to be  one saweeet gOOn, Looking forward to the project thread.

Thanks all,
Slam I got a spare L20 thats goin it it, thanks anyway.
datkimsun, I'd like to buy that back glass off of you, just let me know when you switch the hatches and we'll get something worked out, I'll be trying to find one closer but probably gonna be a no go on that.

Went to the yard first thing this morning and it looked like rain, well, the first thing I did was take off the drivers door and thats when it came a down pour. It rained and rained, so that kinda killed my yard day,,, dang it Angry Stuck around to see if it would let up, but no luck. So I'll have to wait till next weekend to make another run.

Well Braden, I haven't takin the engine out yet, getting the front valance ready to come off and took the driverside fender off. Started taking the fender down to metal and well, I think I need some new fenders or I'm gonna have to get good at replacing some metal. Structure wise the car is solid.

78kingcab, I've got an extra L20 that I'm gonna put in her with a old weber I got at the yard. I ordered a complete rebuild kit for it, so when that shows up, I'll post some pics of me rebuilding it.
I've been wire wheeling a bit, got the inner fender wells done and POR 15 on them. Also got the new lower ball joints, so  cleaning the mounts up and gonna put them on shortly. Heres some pics.

You might want to shoot a little paint over that POR15 if its some where that the sun will hit it. I've heard of it fading out over time, but I got that info second hand. Might be something to check on though.

rusty, u are doing some realtime progress, nice work. my '76 uses the same carb and i just recently installed a choke cable for it. i use spray-on oven cleaner to remove baked on grime and get the carb really clean before rebuilding. when rebuilding yours make sure u run a thin gauge wire or piano wire thru all the tiny jet holes and passages to get all the crud out.

the por-15 painted under my bed, front wheelwells and frame are still holding up, didn't fade at all. cowl area around and under the wiper assembly have faded a little. i would use the por-15 with UV on areas exposed to the elements.

Scooter and Smooth, yeah all the por 15 areas will be covered or under the car.
Got the rebuild kit in and went to rebuilding, Smooth, I used the small wire on all the small holes. Forgot to get a pick of it reassembled.
Also started tearing down the hubs and got new wheel bearings in one.

Been messin alittle, got alittle more done on the engine bay, also got the swaybar and one of the stabilizer bars sanded down and painted, looks orange in the pics, but its red. Gonna go with red on some parts underneath and I'll be painting the wagon back to the original tan color. Pics didn't come out very good. I got to pull that motor out of there sometime this weekend.

Rocker panels aren't in the best shape on this thing, so I cut a piece out and I have a guy thats going to take this piece and fabricate me some. Solid front to back, I'll have to form the ends up, but thats no biggie.

scooter is right if you bought the por 15 in the red can it will fade in months , on the other hand if you use the por 15 that says glossy on the label it will not fade its actually uv resistant , also the por 15 chassis black does not fade either but its gloss is semi-gloss ...... by the way rusty i dig your wagon project looks exactly how mine started ..... have fun with your build....

I haven't been doing much. Been workin on two different jobs right now. But I did start getting the original sound deadener off the floor boards. Passenger side is lookin good front and back, got a little rust and hole in the front corner as you can see in the pic. Thats an easy fix, no problem. I need to get back on the engine bay, but I have to dig my cherry picker out to pull the motor. The guy doing my new rocker panels said they would be done friday, yesterday, but I was to busy to go by and get them, so they'll have to wait till Monday.

Yeah, actually the floor boards are in excellent shape for a junkyard car. I took the windsheild out today and theres alittle rust on each end, but nothing big, the rest is excellent shape.
I took a pic of these round things in the floor board, theres two on each side in the back, this is my first 510 of any kind, so I'm learning what things are and how these things are put together as I go, but can someone tell me what these things are for? I haven't looked thru the Haynes book I have yet.
Also took a pic of the original radio, thats pretty cool.

I went and looked at my 68 gOOn and thats exactlly what they are.

Rusty, can you look and see if you got 2 U shaped (rubber) mounts on the drivers floor, outward towards the door in the corner, I'm not sure but  they look like there for the spare tire rod. just wondering ..

Yeah seatbelts, I figured thats what they were. And yep those two U shaped peices are on the drivers floor, they have to be for the spare tire crank.

About time you start doing something. I took the heater out tonight and disassembled it, man these are a pain compared to a 620 heater box. Got the control valve loosened up and working and tested with water, its leaking in a couple cracked spots. Hooked the fan motor up and its working in all speeds, the core itself looks really good and clean inside, but I'll have to do a test on it. As you can tell I have no exact plan on what to do next or any order, I just go in the garage and start messing with whatever I feel like at the time. It will all get done sooner or later. Heres some pics.

I was going to mess with the struts tonight, but I got my spring compressor out and it ain't gonna work with these,  its the type that goes inside the spring to compress it. I have a question, is there alot of pressure on these springs? I looked up on Mikes strut thread on Ratsun and saw he had used a one that compress's from the outside. This is my first time ever messing with these things. I talked to them at advance auto the other day and they showed me the compressor you can borrow from them, but its the same thing I've got here. If someone can chime in and throw me some suggestions. I guess it'll have to wait until I get the right tool.
Oh yeah, picked up the rockers I had made, man, they turned out perfect. I'll get some pics up in a bit.

Heres the rocker pics, 2 of them at 72" each.
