Been searching for a couple of options for some things i am looking at doing.

Altenators, i see that people are able to swap a gm or saturn alt in on the L series engine.  is this true for us and anybody got any part numbers or years for this swap with a write up?

elec. fan, i have the water pump/fan clutch unit and am wanting to get rid of it.  what steps or parts would be necessary to do this?

im looking to do this pretty soon actually.  any info would be fantastic guys.

thru my searching i have found that if i use the water pump assembly from a 1978 datsun 280z and find the pulley from a ka hardbody i can use grade 8 bolts and that takes care of the clutch pump thingy.

still haven't found anything else out though.  it looks like the efan will be relatively cheap and possibly easy.

u need to search deeper.

alternators: if u need more amps than what your alt is outputting then swap in a maxima or 300zx  alt.

if u go the cheap electric fan route be sure to check its actual CFM, some aftermarkets are bs crap that couldn't even cool a small rad. also, dump the waterpump and pulley and install a CSR electric waterpump. my thread has a pic

wow i looked into that crs water pump and that would be awesome if i had the money, your build is awesome man.  i've been on summitracing looking into their fans probaly gonna run 2 10'' fans both of them run 680 cfm apiece. think thats enough? they only draw 6 amps each.  so thats why im looking into a bigger alt.  any more info on the maxima or 300zx alt swap?

As far as alternators go I did the Saturn (GM CS130) on my 520 and it hit the idler arm so I changed the idler arm.  Then I decided I did not like the bulk of Saturn alt and put a stock 720 50 amp internally regulated  alt in it.  When this one needs rebuilt I will take to a alternator rebuild shop that I have been doing business with sense the 70's and have them bump it up up to 95 amps along with the rebuild total cost about $100.  Much easier than modding a CS130 in.

As far as electric fans here is a link to a modded stock pump I did a while back.

If you are worried about the pressed on pulley coming off just spot weld it.

Diabolic, i remember sanitys telling me  awhile back that mercury villagers and nissan quests have a 110amp alt that should fit on the l-series with alittle modification. u might wanna research that.

Charlie, a bigger alt will fit. for 620s i recommend using the L20 bottom mount if u have a L16 or L18 due to clearance issues with the idler arm. if the alt is still too close to the idler i would change to a slightly smaller fan belt for more clearance and an adjustable alt bracket that can be found at the Z store online.

hey smooth what size fan did you go with? im thinking a 14" puller inside the stock fan shroud around 1500 cfm should pull enough air right? man you have been a huge help.  not sure if i am going with the quest alt though as the 240 guys are hit or miss with it for fitment.
