finally tonight...............i'm a start an on-going build thread of ol'smoothy. like PCD said, on-going meaning never ending. after all these years, i kept her safe even after fixing and selling past projects i acquired after. this 620 was a child of the late '70s early '80s 'van era' when vans were tricked out. you'll notice the bubble sunroof in the 1st pic.  here's more old pics i found.

this pic is a short while after i removed the wooden/aluminum camper, the chrome spoker wheels with 60s rear and 70s front tires, the fiberglass flares, and the blue/white shag carpeting in the bed. like austin powers would say "groovy baby!"LOL

after long hours of block sanding, smoothy is back in black (notice the plexiglass sunroof)

replaced the L18 with a LZ20

replaced the LZ20 with a L20 and ported/polished 219 SSS big valve head after the LZ developed a knockOuch

It's cool she was a custom since she was almost new. Do you still have her today? Has she always bin a show truck or did she start out as a daily driver. P.S. I love the old shots of tricked out 620 please keep them coming.

thanks guys, yes i still have her, still unfinished even after all those past projects put her on the back burner. it originally came from california and i'm probably the 2nd or 3rd owner when i got her she was already built up late '70s fontana style. i should've kept some of those parts and the original old blue and yellow cali license plates.

what happened was it got too many tickets from the cops so the government red tape prevented this 620 from getting street legal unless he 'fixed' some of the mods for example; suicide doors, flip frontend, sliding ragtop on the cab and snugtop, hydraulic scissors bed, hydraulic suspension. he either removed those mods to get it street legal or just keep it as is for a 'show only' truck.  he let it sit a few years then decided to part it. after we removed the bed he cut the frame in half to save the scissors lift, dumped the cab after cutting the roof off, hood got sold but he may have the fenders, front grille, headlights, bumper, porsche adapters and wheels. i got his chrome valance too. this 620 used to be a nice metallic magenta color, i'll post a pic if can find it

after we got done with some welding underneath the bed we POR-15'd the entire underside and some inside the bed. i wished we had done the same to the frame but we were short on time.

shortly afterwards these nissan supercharged xterra wheels were at my doorstep

months later after wrapping them with toyos. i swapped to dunlops since

if u look at the 2nd pic closely you'll see the body is dented and wavy from sitting on the street and getting banged up from kids playing football and climbing all over it like a jungle gym. no panel was left undented.
