What is the biggest motor someone has ever put in one of these successfully? How much torque is it capable of handling?

You can fit any engine you want if you have a healthy bank account, plenty of tools and some fabrication skills.

For ease and realiability stick with the L.

A lz22 is no slouch and a blast to drive
Still on the never ending quest to squeeze more from an L series

You can fit just about anything in out of a normal sized car/truck if you have enough time and money, but there is a point of it being ridiculous, I have seen Chevy 350s in them(521s), that was the conversion back in the day, but not sure if it would be a fun daily driver.
Fairly sure one could get a VG30 in there with enough research into part swapping, meaning which Nissan starter out of what rig will be clocked right to clear the torsion bars, frame, and exhaust, and the alt clearance will be an issue also.

I know the voices are not real, but they have some really good ideas.
