My next door neighbor informs me he saw a '78 King Cab in a local salvage yard this week that was not wrecked and had a very good body with no damage...great tailgate...chrome rear bumper...all marker lights/chrome in good shape.  Reason for being in the yard is unknown.

Can't say that is likely, Rusty.  Restoring Pa's Truck was an act of love and me feeling bad about letting my father's truck end up looking so bad.  It wasn't in great shape when I got it in '95 but got to looking pretty sad with rust and general " beat up" look.  Pa didn't miss bouncing off too many things in the years he had the truck Tongue and there were many dents to repair.

My efforts now are to get my '76 280Z which I  bought at the same time my dad bought this truck running up to snuff at 283,000 miles and to do a little body work to make it new again.  In fact, I thought  the small amount of body work I did on Pa's Truck (yeah, small) would help me learn enough to also repair a small amount of rust on the Z car.  Hey, there's only a certain amount of "play money" to spend on the fun stuff, you know. Next $$$ are for new fuel injectors.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
