Hey guys new to the datsun truck thing.  I thought I had a 320 but looks like I have a 520.  I am starting my build and will be doing the motor, suspesion, and brakes along with rear end gears also.  Looking for some advice.

1.  It has an L16 motor.  As I'm doing a complete rebuild what can I do to get more power?  Cams? Headers?

2.  I want to convert fronts to disk brakes, is there a conversion kit out there?

3.  I was going to go air bag suspension is this the right thing to do?

4.  What gearing should I change it to?  It will be my daily driver

1, when you say "more power" its a slide scale it will pick up a little bit with a carb if you tune it right a cam is overkill imo especially if you are going to daily it the headers that i have seen out there are crap and the stock exhaust manifold flows really well for a dated cast piece.

this truck will likely be slower than most other cars/trucks you have ever had so as it is going to be your daily i would focus more on making it reliable. maybe update the radiator go through the cooling system look into a pointless distributor things of that nature.

2. there are a few disc conversions out from somewhat simple to switching out the knuckle complicated it can be done  check the for sale section  someone is usally selling the conversion brkts

word of caution do your homework you cant just slap disc and rotors and roll. well you can but you really need to look into switching the master cylinder and you will probably need proportioning valves to get it dialed in.  depending on your mech ability and pocket book you may consider rebuilding the stock drums all the way and really getting the dialed in and see how you do.

3. air suspension is great i have it on my 521 however it takes alot of work like 3-4 times as much as you think it would. and it cost even more money even running  a very basic set up for the the truck your looking between $2k and $4k depending on the quality of components you buy. and that is on the super conservative side. also have you ever owned a bagged truck? if the answer is yes did you build or rebuild said truck? im not trying to discourage but it isn't a easy truck to start and learn on it can be done but there are no "kits" or pre-fabbed parts.

4. Good question i want to switch the gearing on my truck as well the freeway cruises are killer. let me know if you decided to bag it i can try and give you some insight.
